About the Sunflower Garden
The Sunflower Garden at Terminal 2 is a rooftop oasis featuring hundreds of vibrant sunflowers bathed in natural sunlight — one of Changi Airport's most photographed spots. Several varieties of sunflowers, all grown in Changi Airport's own plant nursery, create a cheerful golden display that changes with the seasons.
Beyond the flowers themselves, the garden's elevated position offers majestic views of the runway and aircraft parking bays. Watching planes taxi and take off while surrounded by towering sunflowers creates a uniquely Changi experience — the juxtaposition of nature and aviation is something you won't find at any other airport in the world.
At night, special lighting transforms the garden into a mesmerising display. The sunflowers, illuminated against the darkening sky, create an entirely different atmosphere from the daytime — romantic and contemplative rather than bright and energetic. Both experiences are worth seeking out if your schedule allows.
First opened in 2002, the Sunflower Garden is one of Changi's oldest themed gardens and remains one of the airport's most beloved attractions. All the sunflowers are cultivated in-house at Changi Airport's own plant nursery, where the horticultural team nurtures thousands of plants at a time. Because individual sunflowers typically last only about a week after blooming, the team constantly replants to keep the display fresh — an ongoing cycle of care that most visitors never see.
The garden showcases several distinct varieties, from the classic bright yellow 'Sunrise' to the rare red-and-yellow 'Florenza' and the delicate pastel pink 'Strawberry Blonde'. In 2024, Changi celebrated its annual "Sunflower Sojourn" event with over 5,000 sunflowers of 10+ varieties spread across all four terminals, including an 8-metre sunflower sculpture at T3 and a 5-metre rotating topiary at T2. The horticultural team nurtured 14,000+ sunflowers over three months for the occasion.
Because this is an open-air rooftop garden, it provides a healthy dose of natural sunlight and Vitamin D — a rare luxury in air-conditioned transit spaces. However, the garden can be temporarily closed during heavy rain, so check conditions before heading up. It's a place where travellers pause, breathe deeply, and remember that air travel can still hold moments of simple beauty.
Sunflower Varieties
Sunrise
The classic bright yellow sunflower that most people picture. These bold, cheerful blooms are the garden's signature variety and the most abundant, creating the iconic golden canopy Changi is known for.
Florenza
A rare and striking variety with deep red petals fading to yellow at the tips. The two-tone colouring makes Florenza sunflowers stand out dramatically against their classic yellow neighbours — a favourite for close-up photography.
Strawberry Blonde
Delicate pastel pink petals with hints of rose and cream give this variety an almost ethereal quality. Strawberry Blonde sunflowers are the garden's most unusual bloom and a must-see for flower enthusiasts.
Changi Nursery
Every sunflower in the garden is home-grown at Changi Airport's own plant nursery. The horticultural team nurtured 14,000+ sunflowers over three months for the 2024 Sunflower Sojourn — a year-round effort of constant replanting to keep the display fresh.

Visitor Tips
Best Time to Visit
Daytime visits offer the best natural light for both viewing the flowers and photography. The sunflowers are most vibrant under direct sunlight. The rooftop also provides a healthy dose of Vitamin D — a welcome break from air-conditioned terminal spaces.
Runway Views & Nearby
The elevated position provides spectacular views of the runway and aircraft parking bays — the combination of sunflowers and aircraft is uniquely photogenic. The Entertainment Deck and movie theatre in T2 are just a short walk away, making it easy to combine visits.
Access & Weather
Located in the transit area of Terminal 2 — a boarding pass is required. The garden closes at 10 PM. Because this is an open-air rooftop garden, it can be temporarily closed during heavy rain, so check conditions before heading up. Use the interactive map to navigate.
