About the Orchid Garden

The Orchid Garden at Terminal 2 showcases Singapore's national flower with over 700 orchids representing 30 species, carefully arranged by colour and shape to represent the four elements of nature — Earth, Water, Fire and Air. This thematic approach makes the garden both a horticultural display and an artistic installation.

White orchids paired with floating glass bubbles represent Air, while rare brown and green orchids displayed alongside tree root sculptures represent Earth. Floral columns simulating giant candles represent Fire, and clusters of blue and violet orchids represent Water. Each zone creates a distinct atmosphere within the garden, inviting visitors to slow down and appreciate the symbolism.

The garden surrounds a tranquil koi pond, home to graceful koi and archerfish. The interplay of colour, water, and light creates a peaceful retreat that feels worlds away from the concourse — a place where the fragrance of orchids and the gentle movement of fish combine to produce genuine calm.

Orchids are rotated seasonally, ensuring the garden always looks fresh and offers new varieties to admire. Whether you're an orchid enthusiast or simply seeking a quiet moment, the Orchid Garden is one of Changi's most restorative spaces.

Among the hundreds of orchids on display, look for the Dendrobium Changi Airport — a specially named cultivar that was dedicated to the airport itself. You may also spot Vanda Miss Joaquim, Singapore's national flower, which is occasionally rotated into the display. These signature blooms give the garden a uniquely Singaporean identity that goes beyond mere decoration.

Many of the orchids are mounted on natural driftwood structures that overhang the koi pond, creating a living canopy of blooms reflected in the water below. The pond is also home to archerfish — remarkable creatures that shoot jets of water at insects resting on overhead leaves, stunning their prey before darting in for a meal. Watching an archerfish hunt is one of the garden's most unexpected and quietly thrilling moments.
