Voted one of Singapore's best 50 restaurants, and with its Kitchener Road outlet earning a Michelin star for four consecutive years, PUTIEN focuses on bringing out the original taste of its ingredients through light, heartfelt cooking.The result is uncomplicated, homely dishes that exude the memorable flavours of come-home dining. Signature dishes include the Fujian Red Mushroom Seafood Lor Mee, Fried Heng Hwa Bee Hoon, PUTIEN Cabbage Rice, and Mazu Mee Sua, each showcasing the coastal heritage of Putian. The restaurant uses only the freshest ingredients, many sourced directly from the region, to craft delicacies that embody the city's culinary identity. Putien delivered a satisfying dinner with food that was well executed and consistent. The highlight of the meal was the Fried Heng Hwa Bee Hoon, which was exceptional, fragrant and full of flavour. The seasonal oyster claypot was another standout, with fresh oysters and spot on seasoning. The rest of the dishes were also well prepared, reflecting the reliable standards Putien is known for. Having visited the Changi outlet several times, it was reassuring to see the same consistency here. The staff also showed that they cared about the dining experience, checking in during the meal to ask how everything was. The only slight drawback was at the start. Our group of six was first brought to a table with a sofa and three individual chairs, which felt quite cramped since we had several hand carry items with us. We asked if it was possible to move to a bigger table and there seemed to be a bit of hesitation before the request was accommodated. As the restaurant was rather empty and there were tables for eight available, it would have been more comfortable if we were directed to one of those from the start. That said, the delicious food that followed definitely made up for it and made the overall experience a much more pleasant one.
